Around The World
Up Up and Away!

The site name is from an embedded childhood memory. When I was ten years old away from home at a cub scout meeting one of my fellow cubs told me he heard my dad was killed in a plane crash (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Todd).

Fortunately, the resulting trauma was short lived as not long after that ‘news’ my parents arrived to pick me up. Needless to say, the event stuck with me for a while. What also kept this event alive in ensuing years was the fairly frequent question about whether Liz Taylor was my mom.  Every once in a while I still get ‘kidded’ about the ersatz connection.

The Wiki link reveals that the movie producer (Liz’s third of seven husbands) adopted the name Mike Todd from his given name, Avrom Hirsch Goldbogen. He was quite the character!

There is also Mary Todd Lincoln who was thought to be a long lost relative. What I learned in on-again, off-again research over 15+ years is…we are not. My dad’s side of the family had several ‘farms’ around Frankfort, KY (although my dad did not see any of them as he grew up in SC) while Mary Todd was born in Lexington.

My background includes some minor connection to the entertainment community. Except my role was as an investigative journalist for a very successful small radio station South of Seattle. It was 1220 on the dial, KASY. Quite a few of my stories were carried by the Associated Press. Perhaps I may recount some of those later.

  1. The link you followed brings you to a website that started in early 2013, where a fair amount of activity occurred during the site’s first couple of years.
In late 2015, the site crashed for unknown reasons. This resurrection occurred about a year later, without any activity to date.
I wrote his note on 08-15 of 2022.
Check back in a short while to see a rising phoenix take this site to a new level.
    My regards,
    Mike Todd
